Physical Education at Blackpool Gateway Academy is highly valued for its unique contribution to developing a child’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing through our signature ‘Think, Feel, Do’ model. This framework provides pupils with purposeful opportunities to be both creative and competitive, while mastering the art of collaboration and mutual respect.

Our curriculum empowers children to plan, perform and evaluate their actions (often within pairs or small groups) to enhance the quality and impact of their work. Across all key stages, pupils build the confidence and competence required to master new skills, alongside the resilience to overcome physical and mental challenges.

We are committed to fostering lifelong healthy lifestyles. This is supported by a diverse range of extra-curricular sporting clubs, tailored to a wide variety of interests both during and after the school day.

A Progressive Journey of Physical Development:

  • Foundation Stage: physical activity is woven into the indoor and outdoor environments. Children explore, experiment and refine their social, gross and fine motor skills as a core part of their early development.
  • Key Stage 1: pupils build on these early foundations through paired and group activities. The focus shifts toward improving coordination and balance while beginning to express feelings about their own performances.
  • Key Stage 2: the curriculum broadens to include sport-specific skills. Children develop the analytical tools to evaluate their own and others' performances, reflecting deeply on how to improve. Through competitive experiences, they develop a sophisticated awareness of sportsmanship, teamwork and the importance of their individual contribution to a collective goal.

PE lessons are delivered by class teachers in partnership with a specialist PE coach, ensuring high-quality provision and continuous professional development across the entire curriculum.
