January 2022

On behalf of all our children, staff, parents and Governors I would like to wish you all the very best for the coming year. We welcome a new year with many new opportunities to look forward to.

For those of you who have not heard of us, Gateway Academy is tucked away near Blackpool Football Club but is packed full of lifelong learning. We are part of the Fylde Coast Academy Trust ( FCAT) and our motto, developed by our School Council is ‘Learning today for a brighter tomorrow’ and that is precisely what we aim to do. Take a look at our virtual tour and see inside here.

I feel so very proud and privileged to be working amongst the Gateway community. Since becoming the Headteacher in June 2020, we have grown together in many ways. We have a wonderful hard working, committed and talented staff workforce across the whole school--they really go the extra mile--along with a parental community that supports one another. We have built up a Gateway appropriate sequential curriculum, ensuring key skills and knowledge are fundamental to teaching and learning, providing children with every opportunity to succeed in their next stages of education.

Covid times taught us so many things, and not least, all things virtual and digital. Our communication systems through Class Dojo along with our online newsletter (click here), have allowed for continued information sharing across school life with measures in place to ensure everyone remains as safe as possible. I hope some of the sections of our website help you to see all the activity in place, alongside the quality learning and curriculum plans.

Reading is our greatest priority; it opens the gates to all other learning and I am a passionate believer in the ReadWriteInc phonics scheme which works so well for our children. In addition, my other passion is nurture and inclusivity, not just for the children but our entire community, so our journey with Nurture UK developing the six principles of nurture through school helps that holistic development. Our training, to include trauma informed schools and active practice in our journey for all staff and children, is well underway and despite Covid, we are making good progress.

Gateway Academy continues to grow and evolve. We believe the unique priorities for our school development should centre around ‘possibility, growth and community’ and that this concentration will help support all our children and those around us.

We have resurrected the Parents’ Forum principle through virtual meetings; if you are interested please contact your class teacher or any member of staff. We would welcome your input and involvement as this is key to developing together.

We want the very best for every child at Gateway Academy, always!

I hope you find the website useful; if we can help you further please contact the school and we will be happy to help further.

With my very best wishes to you and your families,
Mrs Sue Robinson,

Headteacher
