Blackpool Gateway Academy Nursery

Our facilities include a 26 place Nursery with direct access to our secure EYFS outdoor provision. All our staff are fully qualified to a minimum of Level 3 and are experienced in working within early years. We also have an EYFS Teacher working directly with the children.

Nursery Sessions

Sessions offered are based on parents’ requirements and the well-being of the children. Initially we may offer half days until your child is fully settled into nursery life and will cope with attending a full day.

In addition to our core hours of 8.45 – 3.15 we can offer extended sessions before and after school. These places are limited and need to be booked in advance. Additionally there is the option of half days and full days which also includes a lunch.

Meals and Snacks

Children have opportunity to have snack both morning and afternoon. All our meals and snacks are offered taking into account the healthy eating guidance.

Children attending our full day children stay and have  lunch (either a hot lunch at an additional cost or packed lunch which we ask parents/carers to provide. We also have access to drinking water throughout the day and milk at snack times. Those children attending in extended hours will also be offered breakfast in the morning and a healthy snack at tea.

Developing independence and self-regulation skills are an important element of snack and mealtimes and older children are supported and guided to pour their own drinks and scrape and wash plates etc.

Learning through Play

Experiences offered within our nursery are varied with a balance of adult led and child initiated play which is led by the children’s interests and taking into account the 7 areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage. We offer a structured routine but within that the flexibility to adapt and meet the individual needs of each child is a priority.

The children access group and individual one to one work and have an environment which supports them to fully engage in their play, either on their own or with their peers. The environment is very carefully planned to provide opportunity for quiet time and rest when they need to, space to play on their own and space to play with their friends and in groups. Our outdoor provision is a major part of our environment and learning opportunities are also carefully planned and play can be on a bigger scale than indoors.  We access outdoors everyday as part of our continuous provision and will play in all weathers unless conditions may cause risk to the children. Play is free flow so the children can play inside or outdoors as they wish or may prefer.

Children are observed on a regular basis as required within the Early Years Foundation Stage.  This information is used to share with parents and identify interests, consider possible new learning opportunities and future experiences that can be offered. These observations are kept in each child’s learning journey and observations can also be emailed home.

Your child’s development and progress whilst in nursery and at home will be monitored closely by staff completing observations. These will be shared with you on a regular basis and each term we arrange a formal opportunity for you to sit down and discuss your child’s achievements within the 7 areas of learning. We ask you to regularly share your child’s interests and achievements at home to include within their learning journey.

Though we arrange regular consultations if you have any concerns or would just like to chat with the EYFS teacher we have an open door policy and are more than happy to arrange this at mutually convenient times.

Settling In

We have a settling in process which is very important to ensure your child feels confident to be left with us. The process is as follows:

Stay and Play Session (1 hour)  - an opportunity for you to come into nursery meet our Early Years Professional (EYP) and explore our environment with your child.

Settling in Sessions 1 (1 hour) This is a pre-booked session in which parents may leave premises if child is happy and all paperwork has been completed.

A review will then take place of how your child is coping. At this stage we may recommend further settling in sessions, re-consider the sessions your child is attending  or agree on your child’s start date. This will change from child to child and be based on each individual child’s needs.
